wYap – a decentralized mini-app where verified humans share real insights, not bots.
wYap is a decentralized mini-app built to bring authentic conversations back to social media. Users can create and join communities, share their thoughts, and engage in discussions — all verified by World ID to eliminate bots and fake accounts.
Unlike centralized platforms that push content for clicks or controversy, wYap lets the community organically decide what matters. When users post valuable content, others can Echo (upvote) their posts or contribute World Coins directly to the creator. A portion of each contribution also supports the community — creating a sustainable incentive loop for quality participation.
We used World ID for human verification, ensuring that every Echo comes from a real person. The backend runs on an IPFS server, storing posts and community data in a decentralized and tamper-proof way. Our frontend is built with a reactive state-management system to update feeds and Echos in real time. We designed a simple yet secure contribution flow using World Coin’s mini-app APIs, so users can reward creators in just one click.
One of the trickiest parts was implementing fair reward distribution — we developed a prototype of a time-decay ranking algorithm (upvotes + time weighting) to make sure fresh, quality posts rise to the top.
