Web3 Pilot Log

Aircraft pilots must register their flights in logbooks, currently we use paper books in which we put all the information regarding a flight (where we departed from, where we went to, the aircraft...) and it is only acceptable to do so in paper because "it can't be tampered with". This is a perfect example of a use case that can be translated into a digital version using blockchain. Particularly, using attestations in order to prove both each flight and the overall content of the book. This is what we did: a blockchain & EAS based logbook for aircraft pilots.

We use lighthouse.storage (IPFS based storage solution) to store offchain attestations generating Ethereum Attestation Service (as data is intended to be private) for both the license data and the logbook entries (ideally, that that data would be encrypted but the lighthouse SDK is failing and we were not able to do so. This is something we will be able to change as they fix it)

Also, we use a smart contract in which we store a pointer to IPFS, associating virtual logbooks to the addresses of the pilots creating them, and also we use that smart contract as the to handle the logic for required signatures from other pilots (for example when you are a student pilot and need your flight instructor to sign your training flights in behalf of you) This enables also pilots to share their logbooks with authorised third parties (for example if you want to join a flying club or company, they will ask for your paper logbook, but using our solution you could enable them to access your virtual logbook in a secure manner while maintaining trust and verifiability of the content)
