Soul Protocol

A DAO-owned protocol and dynamic NFT primitive that captures the holder’s constantly unfolding “self” on-chain.

Soul Protocol

Created At

ETHAmsterdam

Project Description

Soul Protocol is designed to unlock novel decentralised experiences that will nourish and grow our sense of self, both digitally and physically, at the same time encouraging interconnectedness.

The Soul DAO community curates and manages the Soul Oracle with an array of personality traits. Using this data from the oracle the dynamic NFT primitives are minted, capturing the Soul holder’s “self” identity on-chain.

The Soul NFT is the holder’s cultural and spiritual reputation in Web3. Restoring human connection to self, community, and consciousness. Harnessing the flow of energy on the blockchain to build a more meaningful spiritual and cultural identity. Intentional building blocks for a better web, making the true “you” interoperable. You become a self sovereign agent in the world of web3.

A Soul NFT is minted using a unique set of personalized data points that can be defined by the Soul holder themselves. For example biometric sensor data from an Emotibit wearable, voice, sound, a personal or shared moment in time and space. Anyone can create methods to onboard and plug in Soul data.

The Soul holder can express their “Self” through dynamic avatars that reflect the Soul’s journey with representation of their being. They will benefit from personalized social experiences. Gaining access to Trait and reputation related content. Intuitively targeted content. Vibe matchmaking based on Soul traits. Their Soul expresses their spiritual and cultural credentials.

How It's Made

Tell us about how you built this project; the nitty-gritty details.

Lots of great discussions on how we would like for the web3 world to grow and how we can evolve alongside of it. At the same times, we do notice there are lots of room for growth. A example would be how can we onboard more people to see the benefit of this space instead of fear of ultra separation.

With a wide arrange of experiences all 4 of us brought to the table, it was amazing how we can bound over the topic and blockchain and yet still have traits that are very different. Centering in on an issue that we would like to solve, we kicked off with more planning. We wanted to be cleared and fully aligned before starting hack.

We worked on roadmapping the use cases and got way excited. Keeping in mind of this being a short hackathon, we worked hard on minimizing the scope and still did our best to reach far.

What technologies did you use?

Tatum API: HardHat, Truffle: Polygon; Web3Auth, hardware Sensors, Web2 Open Apis

How are they pieced together?

The onboarding elements were quite important for us, as we really wanted to encourage users from web2 to join us. Hence web2Auth was pretty great at providing both the sense of familiarity from web2 oAuth’ and the great freedom of a web3 non custodial wallet. We used both HardHat and Truffle to develop and compile the smart contract. I also really enjoyed looking into Chainlink for creating oracles to transcend data for both onchain and off chain. Tatum was supported us in working our ways to execute and hack logic for the NFT and smart contract interactions. The oracle element would be where dao member to chose to vote for what kind of data to piped in.

If you used sponsor technology how did it benefit your project?

Did you do anything particuarly hacky that's notable and worth mentioning?

Alice totally hacked on some hardware sensors, Miles hacked on keeping us grounded and providing great feedback. Connor is our killer front end engineer crafting together a great infrastructure for us to start building on. We all have really hacked together some amazing tech and tools out there.

How did you impress yourself with what your team built?

Absolutely!! The idea was fun and it open up lot of interesting conversation and invigorating learning experiences.
