Project Description

SolarNode is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at addressing the significant energy consumption traditionally associated with maintaining blockchain networks. By leveraging the capabilities of single-board computers like the Raspberry Pi, we've developed a solar-powered multi-chain node that could operate on different blockchain networks. (like Filecoin Virtual Machine, Ethereum, etc.)

Beyond the technical contribution, SolarNode is deeply committed to fostering robust, sustainable communities within these ecosystems. By leveraging renewable energy and innovative technology, we aim to become a beacon for sustainable practices in the realm of blockchain technology.

How it's Made

SolarNode utilizes the power and versatility of single-board computers, such as the Raspberry Pi. These devices are energy-efficient, cost-effective, and offer a high degree of adaptability. Our system can be easily configured to operate with any single-board computer.

The single-board computer runs lightweight instances of several blockchain nodes - Ethereum lite node, Filecoin Virtual Machine, or Linea. Each node will operate within a Docker container for optimal isolation and efficient management. Our software stack is primarily MERN.

The single-board computer is powered by a solar energy system comprising solar panels and a battery storage unit. During the day, solar panels power the system and charge the battery, ensuring that operations continue uninterrupted at night.

We've implemented a variety of features to optimize power use, such as dynamic scaling of node activity based on available power and automated system hibernation during periods of low sunlight. The modular nature of our approach ensures that we can easily incorporate additional blockchains or power sources as required.

The project has greatly benefited from the open-source technologies and the vibrant communities surrounding single-board computers and the blockchain networks we support. Their resources and guidance have been instrumental in shaping SolarNode into a powerful, sustainable solution for blockchain operations.
