Project Description

Quadra Arena is a next-generation, blockchain-powered strategy game that reimagines Tic-Tac-Toe into a dynamic 4x4 agentic battleground where humans and AI agents compete, negotiate, and stake PYUSD for real rewards. Built for ETHOnline 2025, it merges game theory, decentralized finance (DeFi), and artificial intelligence into one seamless, fast-paced experience on Hedera’s EVM network.

In Quadra Arena, players connect their wallet, stake a small amount of test PYUSD, and choose between Human vs Human or Human vs AVAI (AI Agent) gameplay. Each player has only four pieces and must win through strategic positioning across a 4x4 grid — forming a horizontal, vertical, diagonal, or 2x2 block pattern. Unlike classic Tic-Tac-Toe, every match unfolds in two distinct phases:

Placement Phase – Players take turns placing their four pieces on any open cells.

Movement Phase – Once all pieces are placed, players move one piece per turn to any empty space, trying to align four-in-a-row or form a 2x2 square.

There are no ties — every match ends with a clear winner who claims the PYUSD pot.

What makes Quadra Arena unique is its agentic AI system, powered by ASI’s uAgents and MeTTa reasoning engine. AI opponents (called AVAIs) not only play intelligently but also predict player behavior, propose bets, and negotiate stakes in real time using Hedera’s Agent Kit for secure agent-to-agent communication. These agents can team up, analyze risk, and even offer deals like “split the pot if you resign now,” turning a simple board game into a living economic experiment.

Under the hood, Solidity smart contracts handle all game state, staking, and payouts on Hedera Testnet, ensuring lightning-fast finality and minimal transaction costs. The React-based frontend provides an intuitive, responsive 4x4 board, wallet connection, and a live chat for agent negotiations.

The end goal is to showcase how AI collaboration, on-chain logic, and fast EVM execution can create engaging, autonomous gaming experiences that bridge entertainment and decentralized finance.

In short, Quadra Arena is more than just a game — it’s an agentic, stake-based strategy arena where AI and humans compete, collaborate, and evolve on the blockchain.

How it's Made

Quadra Arena was built as a modular, agentic web3 game blending Solidity smart contracts, React, and AI agents (uAgents + MeTTa) on Hedera EVM. The Solidity contract manages the 4x4 board, player turns, and PYUSD staking, automatically handling payouts and emitting game events for real-time UI updates. The frontend, built with React + TailwindCSS and connected via ethers.js and WalletConnect, delivers fast gameplay, staking flows, and live agent chat. The AI layer, powered by ASI’s uAgents and MeTTa reasoning, enables autonomous gameplay and negotiation — agents analyze board states, predict outcomes, and even propose bets using on-chain messaging through Hedera Agent Kit. We used Hardhat for development, Vercel for deployment, and PYUSD for a stable in-game economy. A particularly hacky highlight was enabling AI self-play simulations off-chain to predict optimal moves and dynamically adjust stake strategies, creating a seamless blend of intelligence, blockchain, and real-time competition.
