Project Description

This project aims to tackle the problem of the current DAO structure where 1 governance token represents 1 vote. DAOs should not be giving power to just rich members who can purchase a large percentage of tokens to sway governance decisions in their personal favor rather than for the betterment of the DAO. Instead, voting power should be allocated more to members who had a positive impact on the DAO, as it is more likely that they would put the DAO at best interest.

How it's Made

In our solution, we propose an on-chain governance score metric that is dependent on the consensus of the DAO members of an individual's self-declared contribution. This solution may be deployed on all EVM compatible chains, and we have deployed them on both the Polygon and Optimism chains. Instead of using ERC20 tokens, we would be using ERC721 tokens to help power DAO Governance. These ERC721 tokens are non-transferable and will be used to record the contributions and reputation a user has in the DAO. To add flavor, the token visuals are automatically upgraded when a user reaches a certain governance score. For example, all users will start off with a bronze badge, but when a user reaches a governance score of 10, it will be upgraded to a silver badge, and this is done completely on-chain. Tatum is used in retrieving the NFT metadata in our dAPP. When a user posts a self-declared contribution on our dAPP, users of the DAO will be notified via EPNS, to commit an upvote or downvote to the statement of contribution. The statement of contribution will be not directly stored on the blockchain as it is not efficient, therefore, a IPFS hash of the text file will be stored instead, while the actual file is stored on IPFS. In order to prevent a Sybil attack that would rig the reputation system, we have integrated WorldCoin's WorldId to ensure the voters are real humans, therefore eliminating fraudulent votes. The governance score would be determined algorithmically based on the total upvotes minus the total downvotes from all the self-declared contributions. Time elapsed since joining the DAO will also play a small factor in the user's governance score.
