Project Description

Nostec combines Nostr's decentralized social protocol with Aztec's zero-knowledge technology to create a privacy-first social network. Unlike traditional platforms where followers and connections are public, Nostec stores follower relationships as encrypted notes on Aztec's L2, making your social graph completely private. ENS is used to link Nostr accounts to Aztec addresses. Users verify their identity through zkPassport without revealing personal information, and can selectively encrypt posts to specific follower sets. Built with Aztec Noir smart contracts and integrated with ENS for human-readable addresses.

How it's Made

Nostec is built on Aztec's L2 using Noir smart contracts that store follower relationships as private sets of encrypted notes, making social connections invisible except to involved parties. Aztec's zero-knowledge proofs cryptographically guarantee social graph privacy.

The frontend integrates Obsidion wallet for Aztec interactions, ENS to link Nostr accounts to Aztec addresses, and Supabase for off-chain indexing. We integrated zkPassport for identity verification, though proofs aren't actually verified on Aztec. And we built a "hacky subscribe" button bypassing verification to quickly demonstrate UX.
