Project Description

A broken foot led me to the Canadian Emergency services. Unfortunately, the X ray was not shared with me for further consultation. This is a problem on many fronts.

  1. Patient can not transfer important medical records across cities, places, countries
  2. In the age of AI, it is important to ask - who owns this data? If not the user. Ideally, it should be the patient - getting the incentives for donating their own medical data to research. Hence, we came up with a solution to use Blockchain to mandate global data availability A blockchain-based platform for storing medical imaging, aimed at solving the problem of interoperability with electronic health record (EHR) systems that differ across countries and healthcare systems. This approach ensures secure, decentralized storage, allowing seamless sharing and access to medical imaging data globally. In addition to addressing interoperability, the blockchain platform emphasizes patient data ownership.

How it's Made

This project has 3 major parts:

  1. the front end - that is a React application. This is responsible for connecting with the smart contract and for identifying users through connection with wallets. Doctors get the option of presenting/ uploading the data using React components. Once blob is submitted, records can also be retrieved.
  2. The Backend which is a solidity smart contract: It is used to authenticate patients and doctors and to implement the logic - only Doctors should be able to upload the records. However, both patients and doctors should be able to retrieve records owned by patients. It can also be used to mandate data ownership by the patients
  3. Data Store - Walrus protocol for file sharing. - Decentralized storage for interoperability. Image is preporocessed and uploaded, blob is returned. Image is rendered. Here image is a medical record
