MedChain is an innovative Web3-based system designed to authenticate medicines, track expiry, and combat the growing problem of counterfeit drugs in the global pharmaceutical supply chain. By leveraging blockchain, decentralized storage, and smart identity systems, MedChain ensures transparency, trust, and safety for all stakeholders including manufacturers, consumers, hospitals, and regulators. At the core of MedChain’s architecture are three powerful decentralized technologies:

1. Lighthouse for storing manufacturer profile images in a decentralized and verifiable way.
2. Subgraph for storing and querying manufacturer registration dates and related indexed data. The system workflow ensures end-to-end accountability:
3. Manufacturer Onboarding & Verification → Manufacturers register and, once verified, they can register their Batch.
4. Batch Registration → Medicines are registered on the platform, with full details stored in Subgraph.
5. QR Code Authentication → Each batch receives a unique QR code. Consumers, pharmacies, or regulators can scan the code to instantly check whether the medicine is valid, expired, or counterfeit.
6. Alerts & Notifications → Expired batches trigger real-time alerts to both consumers and manufacturers. Counterfeit detections are logged and reported instantly to regulators.
7. Transparency Dashboard → A public-facing dashboard displays insights into active, expired, and counterfeit medicines, increasing trust across the ecosystem.
8. AI Integration (Future Scope) → AI-powered analysis will identify high-risk batches based on suspicious or repeated counterfeit reports.

MedChain is built on the Filecoin Calibration Testnet using smart contracts, Lighthouse for storage, Subgraph for indexing, and a QR-based verification system to ensure medicine authenticity and expiry tracking.

3. The Super-Fast Librarian (Data Indexing) - To find information in our secure record book instantly, we use a specialized system that works like a brilliant librarian or a search engine for the blockchain.
4. The Key to the Vault (Our QR Codes) - Every single medicine box gets a unique QR code. This code is the simple key that links the physical product in your hand to its secure digital record.
