The Universal Time Protocol (UTP) is designed to recognize and reward otherwise uncompensated labor within any two-person partnership — whether romantic, creative, business, or otherwise. In this system, “marriage” is redefined as any committed two-party union, and the project operationalizes this through two interconnected components:

marriageDAO – A lightweight, permissionless smart-contract infrastructure that formally binds two unique World ID holders (leveraging Worldcoin’s proof-of-personhood) into a recognized partnership with a shared on-chain treasury. Universal Time Protocol (UTP) – the core economic and temporal layer that makes all partnership labor visible and compensable.

Under UTP, every stream of income earned by either partner — regardless of who directly receives it — is routed through the marriageDAO’s joint treasury. As real-world value flows into the partnership, the protocol continuously mints TIME tokens proportional to the income received, effectively tokenizing the couple’s combined economic productivity. Simultaneously, the marriageDAO mints a perpetual series of NFTs, one for every available hour of the partnership’s existence. Each NFT represents a discrete one-hour time block and embeds rich calendaring metadata (events, milestones, commitments, etc.). These hour-NFTs can be held as memorabilia, transferred, gifted, or sold on secondary markets, allowing third parties to literally “buy” specific hours of the couple’s shared timeline. Together, the TIME token rewards financial contribution and shared economic success, while the hourly NFTs make the couple’s most irreducible resource — time itself — legible, memorializable, and tradable. The result is a universal framework that finally assigns measurable value to all forms of labor (paid and unpaid) within any two-person union.

Technical Architecture

Identity & On-Chain Execution World ID (Worldcoin) is used as the sybil-resistant proof-of-personhood mechanism, ensuring each partner is a unique human. All smart contracts are deployed on World Chain, the native layer-2 optimized for World ID, where TIME (ERC-20) tokens and commemorative/hourly NFTs are minted. Off-Chain Storage & Data Availability Filecoin is employed for decentralized, permanent storage of the marriage registry, NFT metadata, shared calendar data, and any supplementary evidence required for third-party verification or future audits. Trusted Time & Automation Chainlink oracles and Chainlink Automation serve as the canonical off-chain source of truth for time. They trigger hourly NFT minting, track key milestones, and manage any time-critical logic without relying on centralized servers. Development Stack Smart contracts were developed and rigorously tested using Foundry. The user-facing frontend and partnership dashboard are built with Next.js, providing a seamless, responsive interface for onboarding, treasury management, calendar integration, and NFT/TIME token interaction.

This stack combines strong human uniqueness guarantees (World ID), cost-efficient scaling and native token/NFT minting, unique marriage identifier (ENS) and verifiable long-term data storage (Filecoin), resulting in a fully trust-minimized and globally accessible Universal Time Protocol.
