Project Description

GitStream is a tier-based revenue streaming platform that pays software contributors as apps earn money. Instead of fragile, gameable metrics like lines of code or commits, GitStream uses human-governed contribution tiers (Core Maintainers, Active Contributors, Community) to determine how revenue is shared.

When an on-chain app earns USDC, funds flow into GitStream and are continuously distributed to contributors by tier, proportional to their role and responsibility in the project. Git data is used strictly for visibility and transparency, helping project owners understand who contributed while humans decide what that contribution is worth.

This model aligns incentives around project success, quality, and stewardship, not metric chasing. As revenue grows, everyone benefits. GitStream turns open-source and collaborative software into a system where contributors are rewarded fairly, transparently, and continuously without turning collaboration into a gig economy.

How it's Made

GitStream is a full-stack monorepo: Next.js frontend for dashboards and tier management, Hono + MongoDB backend for projects/contributors/tiers, and Solidity contracts on Base Sepolia for receiving USDC revenue. Users authenticate with Privy (wallet + email/social), and GitHub access is handled via OAuth to fetch repo/contributor visibility data. For payouts, GitStream uses Yellow Network Nitrolite state channels to stream funds gaslessly off-chain, with optional on-chain settlement when contributors want to withdraw.
