Field Hacking Method

A method applying Steve Blank’s Customer Development by hacking on-site for fast live feedback

Field Hacking Method

Created At

ETHGlobal Buenos Aires

Project Description

The Proximate Hacking Method redefines innovation by physically hacking where the real-world problem exists rather than within isolated hackathon venues or exclusively on-chain. Inspired by Steve Blank’s Customer Development, this method centers on immersive engagement—embedding directly in the problem space to observe, test, and iterate solutions live.

Applied within ETHGlobal events, it bridges decentralized technology with grounded, local context, empowering builders to solve tangible challenges facing communities beyond just blockchain networks. This approach unlocks nuanced insights and authentic user feedback that traditional remote or virtual hackathons often miss, accelerating meaningful product-market fit and real-world impact in Web3 and beyond.

How it's Made

The method is deployed through rapid prototyping and live iteration cycles conducted directly at or near the problem environment. It leverages Lean Startup and Agile principles for continuous learning and adaptation, supported by digital tools for quick social sharing and data capture. By hacking proximate to the problem—such as on the Devconnect Music Stage during ETHGlobal Buenos Aires—teams gain fresh, real-time insights, validate assumptions instantly, and develop solutions truly aligned with the moment and user experience.
