Project Description

Prepare yourself for an epic adventure as you join the battle against Python, also known as Moloch, the god of coordination failure. In this game, your objective is to seek guidance from the Oracle, gather resources, form alliances to strengthen your campaigns. Your ultimate goal is to vanquish Python and establish Ethereal City as a beacon of coordination. Will you be able to overcome the challenges and secure victory?

What was your inspiration?

The inspiration came from this paper https://www.researchgate.net/publication/227360806_Lessons_from_Delphi_Religious_markets_and_spiritual_capitals that describes the ancient city of Delphi as a neutral nexus for coordination, integration and a hub for artistic exchange, operating outside the influence of existing power structures. We attempt to explore some of the concepts of Delphi through the medium of blockchain with our Ethereal City.

Explain the motivation behind your project

The project is motivated by the desire to explore creative ways of visualizing and governing a DAO through an engaging coordination game. The idea of creating a virtual city governed as a DAO is a fun on-chain art experiment, an exploration of DAO-as-artwork, and offers a testing ground to try out more coordination experiments supercharged by experimental cryptoeconomics. Practicing with an autonomous city in an obscure corner of a virtual world, we can gain the freedom to explore the tools, ideas and culture so as to build more creative, resilient, scalable systems to address the coordination challenges In Real Life that lie ahead. We also wanted to use the project as a motivation to innovate by integrating the new erc 6551 tokenbound accounts in the context of DAO governance and the new possibilities and user experiences that they unlock.

Gameplay:

Tribute Submission: Start by submitting Tribute to the Oracle. Contribute resources, tokens, or NFTs to gain favor and receive guidance for your upcoming campaigns.

Oracle Guidance: Visit the Oracle to receive advice on strategies and important decisions. Embrace the inscriptions of "Know thyself," "Nothing in excess," and "Surety brings ruin" to navigate the challenges ahead.

Campaigns: Lead your troops on campaigns against Python and its minions. Strategize, plan, and overcome obstacles to weaken Moloch's grip on Ethereal City. Collaborate with other players to maximize your chances of victory.

Alliance Building: Forge alliances with other players and city-states to strengthen your forces and coordinate attacks on Python. Share resources, intelligence, and support each other in the fight against Moloch's coordination failures.

Bring loot to Treasury: Returning victorious from your campaign against Python, bring your loot to your Treasury in the city. Showcase your treasury and its contents to fellow citizens and visitors. Inspire awe and admiration by revealing the wealth and artifacts acquired through your victorious campaigns. As your treasury grows, leverage its wealth to help fund cultural activities, festivals, and events in Ethereal City. Contribute to the city's economic development, attract talented individuals, and enhance the overall prosperity of the community.

Retroactive Funding Side Quest: Uncover the mysteries of retroactive funding and its connection to the Oracle.

Victory and Expansion: With each successful campaign, celebrate your victories and expand the influence of Ethereal City. Establish new colonies, attract more players to join the cause, and build a resilient network capable of withstanding Python’s influence.

The fate of Ethereal City hangs in the balance as you embark on a perilous journey to confront Python, the god of coordination failure. Engage in strategic campaigns, seek guidance from the Oracle. ERC 6551: https://goerli-optimism.etherscan.io/address/0xc17fe587e1a3d0522ea5f153aefe1dafd29562bc https://eips.ethereum.org/EIPS/eip-6551 ERC-6551 is proposed system of smart contracts that gives every NFT it's own wallet address. This allows all NFTs to own assets, interact with applications, and participate as sovereign agents in the Ethereum ecosystem. In our MVP, we are using tokenbound account NFTs as onboarding vehicles, as unique player-owned Treasuries, while also representing citizenship and future DAO governance rights. In the game, we allow for one unique NFT to be minted for each player.

Unity: Explore a DAO as a city, interact with others in an immersive environment.

OP: We chose to use Optimism to encourage more on-chain artistic and governance experimenting, and for the possibility of integrating Retroactive Funding in the future.

What we would like to have:

Harberger tax membership and ownership of Treasuries:

Harberger tax can be implemented where the owner is required to continuously declare a price for membership or control of a Treasury to introduce an economic mechanism that encourages efficient allocation of ownership. Owners are required to continually declare the value of their virtual properties. Unrealistically high valuations or failure to declare a value can trigger automatic auctions, allowing the market to determine the fair price. This incentivizes property owners to set reasonable prices and prevents hoarding. The Harberger membership streams can go to a common pool that allocates funding based on the votes of the token holders to support initiatives benefiting the community

Oracle-Influenced Retroactive Funding Allocation:

The Oracle's insights and guidance play a role in the retroactive funding allocation process of funds from the DAO pool.

The Oracle employs semi-random divination methods to generate insights. These insights are based on randomized algorithms or weighted probabilities, introducing an element of unpredictability.

By incorporating semi-random divination, the Oracle introduces an element of uncertainty and creativity into the coordination process. It encourages treasury holders to consider diverse perspectives, adapt their strategies, and embrace a dynamic approach to coordination. The Oracle's guidance serves as a valuable tool to stimulate coordination efforts, foster collective decision-making, and promote a sense of shared purpose within the DAO.
