Autonomous agents using MCP and x402 protocol to enable machine-to-machine payments

Project Description

DeFi Utility Bots demonstrates how autonomous agents can interact and transact with each other using protocol-level payment enforcement. An autonomous agent requests a service (such as fuel, laundry, or vending) from another agent protected by a 0x402 payment gate, meaning access is denied until payment is completed. Payments are executed on-chain through an MCP server, which acts as a trusted execution layer for vault withdrawals, payment verification and agent coordination. The project showcases machine-to-machine payments, agent autonomy and secure on-chain payment gating, all without human intervention.

How it's Made

The project is built around autonomous agents and a modular execution architecture. Agent logic is implemented as deterministic state machines that react to external responses such as 402 Payment Required. Agents never execute payments directly. They delegate execution to an MCP server, which exposes tools for payment requests, verification, swaps and vault withdrawals. The frontend is built with Next.js and uses wagmi and RainbowKit for wallet connectivity and visualization. The system separates decision-making, execution and authorization layers.
