CrossScale&the friends we made along the way

Permissionless Modular Interoperability with Hyperlane -- Warp Routes, Community Building, and LINK & WETH freely exchanged between testnets!

Project Description

This project was an exploration into modular interoperability between blockchains and people. In terms of technical aspects:

Hyperlane warp routes were deployed to Mumbai, Moonbase, and Goerli. Hyperlane was deployed between Goerli and Mantle, enabling future Hyperlane access to Mantle's Eigenlayer restaking Data Availability layer for wETH. Synthetic Chainlink tokens can also be transferred between these Warp Routes. A planned expansion of a Warp Route onto Mantle will allow Chainlink Functions to enable interoperability with offchain APIs that can combine with Eigenlayer's functionality.

In addition, a community resouce wiki/information hub was created as a resource for other interoperability-focused developers to quickly and easily deploy Hyperlane in their modular stack. This also serves as a resource for the Hyperlane core team to see what the interop community needs from the protocol at large.

How it's Made

How it's made:

We mainly used Hyperlane's tech stack to get our project up and running. Some key steps were:

  • Deploying Hyperlane core contracts onto Scroll & Mantle
  • Spin up up Hyperlane Validators & Relayers that run on AWS for interchain communication (Mantle & Goerli)
  • Submitting messages between Goerli & Mantle
  • Deploying Warp Route Contracts for WETH and LINK tokens on test chains: Goerli, Mumbai and Moonbase
  • Bridging WETH & LINK tokens between Goerli, Mumbai and Moonbase

The main benefit of using Hyperlane we found was how engaging the sponsor engineers & advocates were. Blockers and issues that came up were difficult, but the team was always swift to help and provide context.
