What is Cover the Remix(CtR)?
- A marketplace that allows fans to buy original music stems + distribution licensing and release their covers/remixes
What problem does CtR solve?
- Currently, the process of getting access to original stems and proper licensing to distribute covers/remixes for sale is bureaucratic and complicated
_ CtR streamlines this process so more fans can get access to original stems to create covers/remixes without worrying about the legal stuff
How does CtR work?
For artists:
- Easily create an NFT that gives access to both music stems and distribution licensing with resell loyalties embedded.
- Sell them to your fans so that they can make remixes/covers and distribute their renditions
- Get paid - get additional loyalty payments when your fans' remixes/covers make sales
For fans:
- Buy NFT(which bundles original stems + distribution licensing) of your favorite songs in order to create covers/remixes
- Easily release your cover/remix on the platform to sell as NFTs (without worrying about the legal stuff)
- Get paid while supporting your favorite artists
What is CtR's impact?
- Encourages fans to create music and engage in music production
- Makes the distribution licensing easy -> more music is released into the world!
- Properly rewards both fans and artists
The backend is written in Node.js and Express. It uses Polygon testnet, Mumbai, and NFT.Storage to mint the NFT and NFT collections for CtR.
The frontend is in Next.js and uses Zora and The Graph to show the marketplace. We use the Zora V3 module, AsksV1_1 to allow a cover or remix artist to purchase the Polygon NFT at a fixed price.
We also used Figma to create mockups.
