CinePlanet

CinePlanet is a Web3 social application focused on the cinema (movie/tv) community.

Through this project, we hope to explore and experiment with Web3 social through both a Web 2 perspective and a Web 3 perspective.

• Relative to Web2, CinePlanet leverages the existing abundance of Web2 cinema data from open databases such as TMDB, seeks to migrate those data into Web3 by encouraging users to use those data and curate content (in this case reviews) that will be shared across other social applications.
• Relative to Web3, CinePlanet seeks to appeal exclusively to the community of cinema fans, and enable the publication of unique content that would not only engage users on CinePlanet, but also contribute to the diversity of content in the overall network (Lens).

In CinePlanet, there are two major actions:

Favorite: When visiting the individual page of a movie/tv, user can perform a favorite action by collecting a CinePlanet NFT of the target movie/tv. Then the favorites records are displayed on ones' profiles, and can potentially be further leveraged for understanding user interests or recommendations.

Review: The creation, sharing and engagement of review is at the heart of CinePlanet. By text searching for titles in the search bar and arriving at the individual movie/tv page, users will have the option to write a review for the title. The review content will then be published to Lens and be formatted for display in other dapps. Finally, arriving at the Home page, a feed of review content (created on CinePlanet) will help user discover and explore different movie/tv titles.

• Lens protocol for both the composition and distribution of social content (reviews) on CinePlanet.
• The currently deployed project runs on Polygon Mainnet and directly interacts with Lens in Production.
• XMTP (Relay Widget) for 1:1 messaging between user profiles
• IPFS for storage
• NFTPort API for uploading to IPFS, NFT contract deployment and customized minting of Favorite action NFT.
• TMDB (The Open Movie Database) for movie/tv data source.
• Next.js & Typescript for web client.
