Arxiv Predict

ArXiv Prophet is a gamified prediction market application where users bet on the future validity and impact of scientific research papers from arXiv.org. Players browse new computer science papers in fields like AI, machine learning, computer vision, and natural language processing, then predict whether the claims will be validated through peer review, reproducibility, adoption, or citations. The platform offers two modes: a free points-based version that requires no registration, and an optional blockchain mode that integrates with MetaMask, uses tokens for betting, and offers NFT achievements. Odds are determined dynamically by community betting activity, making each paper’s market reflect collective sentiment.

ArXiv Prophet was built with a lightweight progressive enhancement approach using only vanilla JavaScript, HTML, and CSS—no frameworks or build tools. The core PredictionMarket class handles game logic, localStorage persistence, and parsing arXiv’s XML feeds with a custom DOMParser client. A separate BlockchainManager adds optional Web3 features, working seamlessly if MetaMask is present but falling back gracefully if not.
