Project Description

AgroBase is a decentralized Web3 microfinance and insurance platform built to empower African smallholder farmers. It connects farmers with global lenders through transparent smart contracts on the Base network. Farmers can request loans by specifying crop type, funding needs, and location, while lenders can fund them directly and track impact on-chain.

The platform also introduces automated weather insurance, where smart contracts trigger payouts during adverse climate conditions such as droughts or floods. Additionally, AgroBase builds an on-chain credit system using Trust Badge NFTs, rewarding farmers who repay loans and enabling them to access larger funding in the future.

By combining blockchain transparency, decentralized finance, and climate resilience, AgroBase aims to improve financial inclusion and sustainability in agriculture.

How it's Made

AgroBase is built using a modern Web3 stack combining frontend, blockchain, and decentralized storage technologies. The frontend is developed using React, Vite, TypeScript, and TailwindCSS, providing a responsive and intuitive user experience.

Smart contracts are written in Solidity and deployed on the Base Sepolia testnet, handling loan creation, funding logic, and secure fund transfers. Web3 integration is powered by Ethers.js and MetaMask SDK, enabling seamless wallet connections and on-chain interactions.

All farmer loan metadata and related assets are stored using IPFS for decentralization. The application is deployed on Vercel for fast and reliable access.

Future integrations include weather oracle APIs for automated insurance payouts and AI-based credit scoring using on-chain activity.
