Project Description

Through this project we aim at finding a way to help FOSS contributors of the Web3 ecosystem get the recognition they deserve. A Hall of Fame is one way to shine the light on the efforts of these incredible persons, from the most well known names, to the unknown solo hacker behind a very useful library. In addition to a public "thank you" message with a minted NFT, the community can also help contributors financially through donations. Donations can target one contributor or can be split between all of them, its the donors choice.

The hole process is fully decentralized and managed by the community. The W3HF Dapp allows anyone to nominate a candidate to join the Hall of Fame. If the candidate gets enough votes they are accepted as a "Hall of Famer". The accepted candidate can later claim their W3HF account after proving their identity.

How it's Made

In this project we use:

  1. Solidity & Hardhat to write and deploy smart contracts.
  2. Mumbai Testnet as a blockchain of choice where we deployed the smart contract. The deployment was smooth we easily got some Matic tokens to get up and running.
  3. Thegraph to follow the changes of the smart contract's state. It was surprisingly easy to index the smart contract and provide a backend to our UI.
  4. IPFS as decentralized storage. All metadata that does not need to be onchain is stored on IPFS. We already worked with IPFS before so we expected that it could be somehow troublesome so we opted for Pinata.
  5. Nodejs for our UI. We used Ethersjs to connect to the blockchain and interact with smart contracts. Thanks you Ric!
