Making scientific publishing fair by removing fee extracting publishing companies and creating a better social incentive network for authors, readers and peer reviewers!
DorkNet creates a decentralized publishing platform for scientific journals. In today's world both authors and the readers need to pay exorbitant fees to publishing companies (such as IEEE, Nature, etc.) to publish and consume scientific content. In return the author benefits from the distribution network provided by the publishing company as well as reputation of being published in a popular journal. The reader pays a monthly or yearly fees for consuming a few journals 1-2 times a year. DorkNet aims to remove publishing companies from mix and create a democratized, pay-as-needed, reputation system leveraging Lens Protocol, Unlock Protocol, Privy.io and IPFS. In this system - authors have full ownership of their published content, are fairly compensated directly from the sales to readers, and can choose to distribute a share of their proceeds to their peer reviewers and content distributors. DorkNet brings the best use of the NFT-powered Lens protocol for mirroring scientific content, decentralized storage provided by Fleek running IPFS, token-gated memberships provided by Unlock, and user data management provided by Privy.
With Polygon and the Lens Protocol - authors can create their Lens profiles and add their scientific journals as Publications on Lens. They send the publication to their reviewers who can review the content and mirror them for supporting and amplifying the work created by the author. This way they gain a fee for each publication NFT that is collected by readers. A reader who is interested in reading the content can collect the publication's NFTs to access the content. Owning the publication NFT will grant access to the full article that is stored on IPFS. Access management to the IPFS links are done with Privy. In future, we plan to use Unlock protocol to accept a fee in $MATIC to allow the reader to access the content on IPFS.
